Head of UX / Product Design
Deckard Technologies
Note: To be considered as a candidate for this role you must be based near Brisbane and able to work from our Brisbane office at least 1 day per week.
Who We Are
At Deckard Technologies, we’re not your typical GovTech company. We’re a global data company helping local governments solve real-world property challenges such as boosting tax collection and improving compliance with cutting-edge tech.
With patented processes, intuitive AI, and over 400 jurisdictions trusting our platform, we’re transforming the way cities and counties manage the places people call home.
We’re a passionate team spread across the US, Colombia, and Australia, united by our love of smart data and practical impact. When you join Deckard, you’re stepping into a collaborative, down-to-earth, and ideas-first culture where your voice matters and your work genuinely makes a difference.
About the Role
Are you a design leader who thrives on turning complexity into simplicity? Do you love building systems, leading end-to-end product experiences, and obsessing over the details that make platforms feel intuitive and delightful?
We’re looking for a Head of Product Design/UX to lead UX and product design across our fast-growing platform.
This role is perfect for someone who enjoys thinking strategically, executing hands-on, and collaborating deeply with product and engineering teams.
You’ll have the opportunity to shape the future of our platform while laying the foundation for a world-class design culture and toolkit.
You’ll report to our CTO and work closely with cross-functional teams across Australia and the US. This is a highly visible, high-impact role with lots of ownership, and plenty of room to grow.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead from the front: Own and execute design across the platform—research, wireframes, prototyping, UI, and testing.
- Set direction: Establish UX strategy, workflows, and design processes that align with our product and business goals.
- Collaborate deeply: Work with product and engineering to define scope, prioritise user problems, and deliver high-quality solutions.
- Own your toolkit: Build and evolve our design systems, libraries, and documentation from scratch or improve what’s there.
- Act like a product thinker: Bring a BA-like mindset to mapping user journeys, writing clear requirements, and helping shape the roadmap.
- Plant the seeds for growth: Identify where additional resources are needed and help shape future team expansion.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field
- 10+ years of experience in UX/product design, including senior or leadership roles in startups or fast-paced product environments.
- A portfolio that demonstrates both hands-on design execution and strategic influence across product lifecycles.
- Strong experience working with cross-functional teams to turn complex problems into simple, user-friendly solutions.
- A pragmatic mindset—you know when to refine and when to ship, and how to balance product ambition with delivery reality.
- Comfort operating independently within a lean environment, while collaborating effectively with shared design, content, and research resources.
- Experience contributing to or influencing product strategy, especially within SaaS or data-rich platforms.
- Strong communication and storytelling skills—you can present design work and rationale clearly to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in wireframing tools, Miro, Notion, Jira, and other modern design and collaboration tools.
- Familiarity with WCAG standards and experience in accessible design and accessibility testing
Why You’ll Love It Here
- Lead product design at a global company with a mission that matters
- Help shape a smart, intuitive platform used by hundreds of governments
- Enjoy a hybrid work setup with flexibility and autonomy
- Be part of a company where your ideas truly make a difference
If you're passionate about thoughtful, impactful design and excited to help build the future of GovTech we’d love to hear from you.
