At Deckard Technologies, we’re not your typical GovTech company. We’re a global data company helping local governments solve real-world property challenges such as boosting tax collection and improving compliance with cutting-edge tech.

With patented processes, intuitive AI, and over 400 jurisdictions trusting our platform, we’re transforming the way cities and counties manage the places people call home.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong Python skills and experience building services that handle large datasets. You’ll work on APIs and backend systems that power our property intelligence products, with a focus on performance, reliability, and clarity of design.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll collaborate across engineering, product, and data teams to build services that interact with complex datasets and distributed systems. You’ll have a strong influence on technical direction while staying deep in the code.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Build and maintain backend APIs and services using Python, FastAPI, and GraphQL.
  • Develop backend logic that interacts with large-scale data sources including ClickHouse and OpenSearch.
  • Optimize queries and application performance in data-heavy environments.
  • Work closely with data engineering teams to consume and serve high-volume, high-throughput datasets.
  • Ship reliable, maintainable, well-tested code to production.
  • Contribute to observability, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code practices.

What We’re Looking For

  • 6+ years of backend software engineering experience with Python.
  • Strong experience designing and building APIs (REST or GraphQL).
  • Comfortable working with large datasets and distributed databases (e.g. ClickHouse, Snowflake).
  • Familiarity with search and indexing systems like Amazon OpenSearch or Elasticsearch.
  • Solid SQL skills and understanding of query performance and cost implications.
  • Experience working in AWS environments with containers and IaC tools.
  • Clear thinking around system reliability, scalability, and operational impact.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with GraphQL (Apollo or similar).
  • Exposure to analytics-heavy platforms or geospatial systems.
  • Familiarity with event-driven patterns or async workloads.
  • Interest in property data, compliance tooling, or civic tech.

Why You’ll Want to Work Here

  • Work on software that helps governments fund public services and catch fraud.
  • Tackle meaningful engineering problems with real-world impact.
  • Build and ship features without layers of red tape.
  • Collaborate with a skilled team that values autonomy, focus, and clarity.
  • Enjoy a hybrid work setup with flexibility and autonomy

If you're an experienced developer who cares about building fast, clean, reliable systems and you're ready to own meaningful pieces of a growing platform we’d love to hear from you.

Deckard Technologies is an equal opportunity employer. We value inclusion and are committed to building a team that reflects a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives.
